I have a pool in Southern Spain where the water is very hard, so hard in fact that i had to empty a 2×8 inch flexible hose on the waste inside the washing machine that was completely packed with lumps of calcium. My problem is that the swimming pool was filled with this water some years ago and the house then rented out. The tennants let the pool slip and it had a 2-3mm layer of solid calcium build up covering the tiles. The pool is now mostly empty and we have managed to chip most of this stuff off the tiles and grout, however we began to refill the pool with the tap water, when its left to settle the water becomes clear and the tiles disappear under a carpet of white powder until its stirred up again. Have you got any ideas? The pool only has a sand filter, would it help to fill it with tap water and put a Diatomaceous Earth filter in? or do i need to find a different source of water.
    Hope you can help.
    Many Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello Mike,
Sorry to read about your problems, it seems your problem lies in the water source.
I would firstly suggest you get a sterile bottle and take a smaple to a very reputable swimming pool company that can test the water.
Normally this problem is cause by the fact your pH, TA, CH got high. But you say your pool was emptied.
As to your question about the filter… i would wait until you get those results. If you want to get back to me with them i am sure i can do something to help your situation.
Look forward to hearing from you
